Yeah, not so much that part of it.
Mega Man turned into Cyclops.
I wish I hadn't fried my HS computer. I made a "Zombie Doomstone" with some mod pack I found at cNet. This reminds me of that. After spending about 40 hours making maps and another 20 grabbing and modding old west textures, I spent probably 100 on a mod I found that let you fuck with the properties of spites, textures and weapons. Like the pistol was a single action six shooter and would fire six times before reloading. The sergents were cowboys I stole from something else but the final dead animated cell I replaced with a dead imp. Then after 60 sec that cell would go to standing imp cell whose poperties were normal. So you kill a sergent, then have one minute before he turned into an imp.
I never finished it completely. I remember there were a couple of things that looked funny, but the way the mod worked, I don't think you could crash a machine or otherwise have any bugs that locked you up. Just shit that looked wierd.

Yeah, but if you look at the scripts you'll see them read and write out of various locations in the emulated memory. Finding those locations isn't easy, you have to disassemble the game and have a good understanding of what's going on under the hood to figure out where in memory a sprite's position and size is stored and how they are represented, to use your example. Somewhat easier than ROM hacking because you don't have to make changes to the disassembled code, but pretty similar in that you have to figure out what it's doing and how to play nice with it so that the changes you make won't introduce bugs.
