Thread: Moon

  1. I saw this a few weeks back and it was great. Rockwell was awesome as usual and the traditional model based sfx were a treat.

  2. Overall, it was good. I also loved how they used models for the base/rovers as opposed to CG. Sam Rockwell was excellent, as was the Kevin Spacey robot with its emoticons, which I got a kick out of.

What I didn't like was the movie was too long and plodding in parts, and there was basically almost zero plot. Okay, the moon base is run by clones of the same guy. When you get down to it, that's the whole story. But what they did within that sparce framework still managed to be interesting.

    Worth watching.

  3. Saw it in LA last night and liked it.

I <3'ed Gerty and its emoticons everytime it used them and Sam Rockwell was great as usual in this.I laughed a little too much when old-clone-Sam asked where he was going to crap at in the H3 transport tube.

Question-When Old-Clone-Sam was messing with the "stasis pod" and found that hidden room underneath, was that ashes on the ground around the pod?Like they were cremating the other clones, right? They didnt really say it, but thats the impression I got.

  4. Correct. Flash-cooked. I really liked that they didn't beat you over the head with it.

  5. They didn't need to beat you over the head with it. It was pretty obvious.

  6. Yeah, but most directors would have thrown in a thirty second CGI shot of a body dissolving.

It is the way of sucky modern movies.

  7. True. Everything has to be spelled out for the retarded audience.

What was nice was that this movie really had the vibe of a sci-fi movie from decades past. The director was supposed to be a fan of 70's flicks like Silent Running and it really showed in the feel/atmosphere. Despite causing some problems with the pacing at times (like I said, there wasn't mush to the plot and the movie got really plodding about halfway through), I did like the simplistic approach they took for this movie. It really allowed the acting to be the sole focus.

And in 2009, I found the model work SO damn refreshing.

  8. Agreed!

I tend to like movies that have a few slow bits. Allows for reflection on what's happening, gives the thing space to breathe. Not always, but sometimes.

    You wound me Dolemite

I didnt need it spelled out, varification through friends is just fine - but I saw it on my own, hence I had to ask here <shrugs>

  10. All I meant is that was how most braindead studios bosses view audiences- that they need every little thing spelled out for them.

    Better?
