Not for the people who put the movie out.

  5. I just got back from it, theater was surprisingly packed.

I thought it was pretty dope. Way better than cookie cutter action / sci-fi. It was constantly switched on, no down time whatsoever. It's more polished and thus less believable than the documentary-looking clips that started the film, but it is still very convincingly executed. Plot isn't as original as the presentation, but it's solid.

  6. Man, a summer movie with a BRAINS, GUTS and Aliens? Yes, it actually happened. And it also showed that you don't need to spend 200+ mil to show fucking awesome looking alien and fx. I applaud to the director, crew and Peter Jackson. Great accomplishment, and I hope this fucking makes the money it deserves.

While not too original story by itself, the way its delivered and the context of how it used as social commentary along with action and explosions, all staged as mix of documentary, stock footage and in your face battle field reporting takes it to the new level. Great job by the first time director, and crew and actor who played Wickus delivered great and convincing performance (being almost a 1 man show for most of the film - aliens and sfx don't count) - especially this being his first film.

At first you laugh at Wickus, his nerdiness of government/corporate ways, you hate him as he betrays people around him in moments of cowardliness, and you cheer for him as he goes heroic, and at the end you are sad of how things turn out.

Oh the sfx - this is a fucking example of how to do aliens, CG and futuristic gun/mech battles on the sub Hollywood standard level. Aliens and everything else, looked Amazing. Both practical and CG fx blended perfectly (in most cases anyways) and results were thrilling. While action was filmed both ways (in your face shaky cam battlefield reporting and more refined, from the distance look at things), both ways delivered thrills and spills, especially in the climax. The alien weaponry and their effects on humans had me cheer in happiness.

I didn't mind the open ended conclusion, though you were given some of the clues to what happened to Wickus. And they way the possible sequel can play was already delivered by ID4, so I don't think it would be even needed. But who knows, especially if this by miracle actually becomes profitable.

Loved how Wickus was going through the transformation. Very Fly like, without Jeff Goldboom

Fucking Mech Suit was off the hook. Bravo - Shit, all of the weaponry it had had me cheering. Especially fucking Half Life Force gun and Merc killed with a PIG !!!!!

The way humans blew up when shot by alien guns was great. Death of retarded Nigerians, especially the leader was fucking awesome.

Whole Mech sequence had alot of Robocop feel, as Wickus was fighting merc forces, and you feel sad, and cheer him to keep on going and take out the fuckers. Greatly done.

End of the main Merc - Prawns pwning his ass - Especially one who runs off with the head as trophy.

It was great how the movie makes you take Prawn side towards the end, and you want the ET to actually make it back home.

Time to get some Cat Food and Rubber and make Prawns Happy.

  7. I saw this today and I thought it was pretty neat. The directing was damn good (no fast cuts and every scene was exciting and easy to understand) but I found the plot to be kind of strange, certainly not what I was expecting. It met my expectations though as I wasn't quite sure just how good it could be, but it certainly did it's job.

This will be worth owning later on as I'm sure the DVD will have loads of extras.

It must be a nice way to be. I wish everything was as awesome as DT thinks it is.
