Oh so then he was probably being far too artistic with it. The first movie had a very creative narrative (the exposition flash back concept had been done), but the way it was executed and interspersed with the car crash scene was a great way to intercut violence in with the boring love story. If he wanted to go Kill Bill on it... well then that would have been a mistake, too.

I felt the same way. I also liked that it was just a simple tale of revenge against just one guy instead of destroying whole cities while saving the world from the ULTIMATE THREAT TO HUMANITY for once.

I read that as Miller wants more Orange and Teal. I think the first one worked so well was because it was worked on and off for 10 years before they could make it. Had a lot of time in the oven. The sophomore effort only gets a year or two.
I'm fine with Reynolds going to the mat for what he wants from the movie. He's a producer and he's got the contract that lets him. If the director wanted to do something different from what worked in the first one so badly then there's the door.
