20th Century Fox is moving forward with the planned Deadpool spin-off with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the "Merc with a Mouth" from Fox's 2009 hit prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. According to Variety, they've hired writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creative duo behind Sony's 2009 hit Zombieland, to pen the screenplay, the duo having already written an earlier draft of Sony's planned Venom spin-off.

No word when they plan to start filming although presumably it will be sometime after Reynolds wraps filming his leading role in Green Lantern for Warner Bros.

Ooh, now here's an exciting prospect: Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds, written by the Zombieland guys... and now, possibly directed by Robert Rodriguez.
