I don't remember much of it except it was not what I expected. I know it is "Young" SH and all but it was so out of character and I hated the actor who played SH. Might be different if I watch it now, I don't know.

  4. So, I saw it this evening.

It was damn cool actually. Reminded me more of old Sherlock Holmes, with a more current twist.

    ___Chemical Weapon__

The action wasn't too over the top in fact they handled it more respectfully than you might think.

___By showing you before hand what Holmes was planning in hand to hand. It showed a bit of narrative, rarely seen in action movies.___

The story itself felt like it could be a new Holmes novel. Watson was witty and smart, just like Doyle's. Holmes even though they could not play up that he was a cocaine addict. they did show him in disarray whenever he woke up. So, if you knew that fact. You could understand why he was that way. RDJ played an excellent Holmes. Way excellent. Racheal McAdams was perfect in the role, but was not prominant like the trailers made her out to be.

The neat thing about the movie was three fold. The music was BY FAR THE BEST MUSICAL SCORE I HEARD FOR A Blockbuster of this type in a long time. It fit the mood and was not over powering. Quite excellent, indeed.

The other thing was the cinematography. Oh my, it was like old school action ... aka camera pulled back, no shaky, you could understand every movement and what each punch did.

The final thing they did VERY well was show the movie in acts. Each time Holmes deduced something it seemed one chapter was done and the next was about to begin. In the end each plot line was brought together and nothing was left dangling. Except ...

____Moriarty, the ending basically left it open for a sequel.___

After all that's said and done ... I'd give 4 out of 5. Not OMG UNREAL MOVIEMAKING, but not OMG WORST.MOVIE.EVER. It was entertaining and that's all one could ask for.

  5. Nice I'm a huge huge fan of the Holmes novels so I'm psyched to see this.

  9. Good movie. I don't recall Holmes being a UFC fighter and they left out the fact that he was a drug addict, but otherwise it was a very interesting take on the character.

  10. Holmes and Watson never fought most people. They always carried their revolvers and stuff for action. Also a lot of the Holmes stories were like 20 pages long (a few went over 100 page mark) so the director had a lot of filler room for action. I saw this last night and I really enjoyed it. The action, etc. I liked the supernatural style storyline and Lord Blackwood was a good throwaway villain.

The action and grungy London scene was what I liked most about the movie. Also the fact that Holmes clearly knew what was going around all along. The one thing I don't get is how he knew the dude who was set on fire was set up. He wasn't around and had no first hand knowledge of the scene. So it seems highly unlikely he'd be able to deduce anything.

Anyway I liked this movie. It's really good. Jude Law stole the show for me.
