I've enjoyed the few movies I've seen in Imax (Dark Knight, Harry Potter: PoA) - more so for the sound experience than the huge ass screen, though.
As for stadium seating, that's been around down in South Florida for at least the last ten years or so and I was amazed how much I missed classic "flat" seating when I saw Coraline at Downtown Disney in Orlando.

I like going to Imax showings for really big movies. Obviously best when it's shot for Imax screens, but the sound is always bad ass. Sit near the top/middle and everything rocks.

I have no idea why anyone wouldn't like stadium seating.

If I go to a movie I either go to the small theater near me that is 90 years old and still has a balcony and a guy who plays an organ before the movie starts. Or I go to a theater that charges 3$ more than a normal one but you get free popcorn, reservation seating that is super comfortable, and the theaters are pretty small (around 60 seats). And as a bonus, films showing after 7pm are 21 and over.

There was a theater like this when I was in London that seemed great. Then when I got there, I went to the back to get a drink and a small popcorn and they didn't fucking sell popcorn. They had trail mix and edamame.

Fuck you for thinking you're above popcorn, pretentious movie theater.
