Thread: Bayonetta

  1. It's the same story that we've seen at the beginning of this generation, ports from 360 to PS3 usually don't go well. As it's been said, the PS3 doesn't do the same effects the same way that the 360 excels at. So that causes problems and it was especially bad when the PS3 came out because very few devs knew how to really make the PS3 work. The 360 has always been easier to make games for.

PS3 to 360 ports have usually made for more equal multiplatform games. Seems like it's easier for devs to tweek and fix any problems that crop up from PS3 to 360 conversions.

That sums it up for me, too. I suppose I should go back and finish DMC3 but I'll probably end up buying Bayonetta first.

Platinum developed the game for the 360 but they had no publisher. When Sega decided to sign on as publisher, they wanted there to be a PS3 version of the game. Since Platinum games are fairly small, and they were still developing the 360 version, Sega decided to develop the PS3 version. I mean, Platinum has taken every opportunity to distance themselves from the port. Sadly, the PS3 version has sold much more copies than the 360 version in Japan. I say sadly, because the better version is getting overlooked.

Still, there has been rumours that Sony is supposedly helping them out with the release over here. I don't know how true that is.

  4. Is it simply an issue of people buying more copies of the PS3 version because more PS3s are owned in the country? I don't know much about each system's install base there, but I'd be curious to know how the 360 version's sales compare to other high-profile 360 titles.

Most likely the reason, but the PS3 version has sold more than double the amount of copies than the 360 version. Opening week, PS3 version sold about 135K whereas the 360 had sold 65K.

It just feels like a bad signal to be sending the publishers.

  6. I think the US will probably see those numbers reversed. Maybe not improved, because Bayonetta is a niche title despite it all, but it's pretty well known among the people who care which version is the preferable one.

It's no secret that Japan isn't exactly the friendliest market for Western companies. Porting to PS3 was a good business move, if nothing else.

I'm just happy to see someone focusing development on a single platform for a change.

I liked the demo a lot too. Sale +1

  8. Honestly, the biggest issue I have with PS3 version are the load times. I mean it loads when you get an item drop. Lame. But with that said -- they could easily fix it for NA and allow us to install the damn thing.

Frame rates are ok in cutscenes and combat (but you can see potentially where it could look a lot better). I haven't felt too much chugging even with a lot of enemies on screen. All in all, still looks and plays fine on PS3 in 720p via HDMI. I have to confirm, but I thought my box said Bayonetta was 480p/720p only on PS3 and 360 usually has 1080i/p modes, so this may be a factor as well for larger displays (but I also may be thinking of a different game).

I plan to play it all the way through on PS3 before it hits stateside so if that is your only option, no biggie, the greatness of the game more than makes up for it.

All I can say is that my short time over there recently, is that 360 did not get the same share of hype that the PS3 got. Went to some best buy like store and their display for Bayonetta featured the PS3 version. Also in Akiba, was able to snag a used copy on PS3 very easily. Seems to be dominated by Nintendo and Sony much more than 360, though I saw very prominently Futari and other shooters for the 360... I agree that the numbers will most likely be flipped here, especially with the negative press the PS3 port has generated. Regardless, the game is selling and it is really good, so as long as people don't let the issues with the PS3 keep them from enjoying it, all is good.
