Thread: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

You can now, yes. The Plus exclusivity is over.

Castlevania 64 had issues but was a fun, interesting game. Still felt more like Cvania than the PS2 3D games did.

Also, whats everyone's ultimate Castlevania game? Since Rondo is easy to get ahold of now and doesn't reek of F-chan elitist bullshit, is it still TNL's chosen one?

  3. #213
It damn well should be. Nothing else has real Castlevania gameplay and CD-quality music.

  4. I still argue in favor of Castlevania III, personally; any time you state any kind of preference, everybody nerds-up on "the better is the enemy of the good" nonsense.

The Famicom version's music is rad as hell.

  5. I like how I can refresh the page and you're there like Beetlejuice, Yoshi.

    That's my #2.

  7. Still up on Super Castlevania 4 for the music and atmosphere. Castlevania Chronicles (the 68000?) one for being the perfectly difficult classic Castlevania.

  8. #218
Yeah, Chronicles is the X68000 one. I wish IV would have come out a year later so that they could have figured out Nintendo's slow ass hardware first.

SotN was 13 years ago. 2 Console generations ago, as far as video games go that is pretty long term. Also if you look at what's been released in those 13 years, you have

    Legends
    64/Legacy of Darkness
    Circle of the Moon
    Harmony of Dissonance
    Aria of Sorrow
    Lament of Innocence
    Dawn of Sorrow
    Curse of Darkness
    Portrait of Ruin
    Order of Ecclesia
    Judgment
    The Adventure Rebirth
    Harmony of Despair

You have 5 classic style games to 7 Metroidvanias. Its worth making note that the better selling games during this time have been the Metroidvania ones. Which means they're probably the ones people today are most familiar with.

It's worth noting that sales are a self fulfilling prophecy when you refuse to release real Castlevanias all together. And I couldn't care less what anyone who has been gaming for less than 13 years thinks about anything. My mother has been gaming longer than that. And she has about as much insight into Castlevania as these reviewers, which is to say none.
