Thread: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

  1. Shitty.

  2. Araujo went on to say that Konami had asked for a "rough" and "aggressive" score to contrast with the series' "effeminate" old image.
Zuh? The music had nothing to do with the series' effeminate old image. That was man music.

Is it really fair to complain about this game being a God of War clone when there hasn't been a truly distinct Castlevania game since the 16-bit era (okay, apart from Castlevania Rebirth)?
What Lords of Shadow leaves behind is the Castlevania look. There's a clear evolution of the series from Castlevania to IV to Bloodlines to Symphony of the Night to Circle of the Moon and onwards, with all the games keeping certain iconography in place. Lords of Shadow jettisons the works, becoming an action game in gothic Euro-land with no obvious connection to any other games set in gothic Euro-land. Obviously this doesn't make it a bad game, but it does make its title feel like a branding stunt.

  4. I love GoW gameplay (minus the QTEs) and I always loved Castlevania but the demo is fucking weak sauce. I'll still pick it up just on all the good things being said here but I hope it is MUCH better than that demo.

I agree. AndGlass Joe, the game gets MUCH better. I was also pretty underwhelmed by the demo.

Chapter VIII done. I found the fight with Carmilla significantly easier than the one with Olrox, though it may have just been that I was hungry and sloppy on the latter, since I took a lunch break in-between. I've also gotten better and finding the magic gems. I have a lot more 76% (best you can do on first play through) lately than I did early on.

ProTip: Do not look up the Achievements/Trophies for this, or they will spoil the last fight.

  7. I've actually got two level with 92%. Or did you mean without going back for the bonus objective?

Yeah, I literally mean the first time through.

  9. I haven't had an issue yet, but this would suck.

These are dark times -- if you're paranoid about losing hours of game progress. Some users have reported an unusual save glitch in the PlayStation 3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Affected players report being prompted with a message upon startup, which reads, "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue." Needless to say, pressing X leads to grim results.

Konami has acknowledged the problem -- which it says is restricted to a small number of users -- and promised a patch is en route to eradicate erroneous erasure. We'll let you know when we hear a firm release date, and recommend you keep a backup of your save file on a USB drive in the meantime.

  10. I knew the 360 version was better.
