Thread: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

  1. As far as I can tell, there are no incentives for doing the trials except an achievement/trophy for completing them all. Maybe if it unlocked other costumes or something, even just bonus xp, but don't think I'll bother as is.

Oh hell yes. Green light that shit, Konami.

  3. Will they ape GoW like they aped GoW?

    See what I did?

Very good to know, thanks. I got 16% on a level and it was a short one and I have no fucking clue what you could do to get any other percentage, so going back to those levels just for an achievement is out of the question. Good to know I can just plow through the game without missing anything important.

  5. As much as I would love to see some new Contra I don't think it can be done justice in 3D. There is just no way to make bullets fly at you from every angle and skillfully be able to avoid them all while you still plow forward. There is just no way in 3D to get into that "zone" you can get into with one of the quality 2D Contra games.

    Vanquish says you're wrong.

  7. Maybe I wasn't clear with my first statement. I have no doubt someone can get into a zone while playing Vanquish (Robots of War?) but it is nothing like the one you can get into with Contra. In Contra you have bullets coming at you from every angle that you can see (even behind you) that you are able to dodge EVERY one of because of your skill. When you don't pull that off it is because your skill wasn't up to snuff. Now I'm not saying that Vanquish isn't a fantastic game but it isn't what I just described.

I don't think that can be done in 3D and so far history has proved me right. There have been some fantastic action games in 3D but none of them give you that full Contra experience.

Aside from the game rendering bullets as gigantic, slow-moving balls, you just described Vanquish. Besides, if you're doing good in Contra then it's rare for the enemies to even fire in the direction of the player, provided they get a shot off at all.

Until you get to the later levels and the framerate becomes a damned slideshow...
