This is what I've never understood about motion control. If you can play it this way, what's the point? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of waggle?

  2. So read a review that said once you beat the game, you can play again with the whole thing opened up. That some areas and items can't even be accessed til you're done once. Like an added boss and ending. If that's the case, I'm cautiosuly optimistic - having that promise can mean playing the 'real' game - but it's still means slogging through the less interesting linear story-heavy stuff to get there.

Not really. In this instance it just works like a more comfortable mouse that doesn't need a surface to rest on. But if you really want to jump around and wave your arm to immerse yourself in your magical space adventure, turn down the responsiveness and I guess that door's still open to you.

The important thing here is that they got it to work better than aiming with an analogue stick.

  4. So... What is this game? Is it like God of War in the Metroid universe? Is it more shootem/beatem up or more explore?

    Yeah, my bad.

The part where the group is trying to hack into "the cpu" and finds out that the Federation was working on bioweapons made me have a fit. You walk slow into the room where you get jumped by a group and enhanced Zebians. Then you have to slow walk back to where you were. Then slow walk back to get to the next area. I made the mistake of walking to where you fought the Zebians only to find out the door that was previously open was now closed for good. Walk back down the hall slowly and take the correct route. Developers that put this in their games need to die.

It's like an easier Ninja Gaiden 1 (with the overworld thing going on) with a little bit more exploration on top that comes into play when finding items.

  7. The more I read about this game and the more I see on Youtube, the more I think this is pretty retarded. I just don't think I can deal with a linear 3rd-person 3D combat-based Metroid game featuring a talking Samus not stranded and not alone. Is the game good enough to overlook all of that crap, or will I just come away thinking they wrecked Samus and pissed away a chance to make another real Metroid game? I mean, even a great game would probably still annoy me with Samus doing all of that talking. Is this thing like "first Metroid Prime game" epic?

  8. I like it more than Prime, but it sounds like you wouldn't be able to get around Video Game Story stuff.

  9. I should probably buy Prime Trilogy instead. I never played 3.

  10. an hour of playtime impressions.

    Good:
    2 1/2D > 3D = seamless transitions
gameplay is really smooth. jumping and movement is really responsive
environments are nice, looks like lots of hidden places to explore
    opening cutscene was kinda cool
it's metroid! and standard metroid concepts all apply

    Bad:
2d>3d is kinda disorienting. would be better if it auto zoomed on an enemy(if there is one in the vicinity) like the 2d shots do
cutscenes and backstory are terrible, voice acting is forced and script is unnatural, story is cliche
    cutscenes are not skippable
adding additional human characters that you are supposed to have any interest in at all, plus this detracts from the desolation/isolation which is a metroid staple. dunno maybe this changes later on
there is at least one black guy in the game

seriously this story is so shit from the few minutes of it ive watched. I dont want to know anything more than Samus a girl fighting aliens in a spacesuit. there really is no apologizing for this story Nintendo, im just going to mute the rest of the cutscenes and leave it to my imagination. kinda like back in 1987, where beating the original for the 3rd time doing a speedrun and discovering that it 'he' was really a 'she' the whole time. it was more fun knowing less
