Well I didn't mean it to be mean. It was more hey you're a smart guy don't let some morons effect you opinion of something.

I always thought of that as part of the appeal. Why is it a big-lol when hamfisted J-melodrama is crammed into Final Fantasy but hamfisted J-melodrama is 'fleshing out' a character in Metroid?
Because it's not really hamfisted J-melodrama. I mean shit the stuff that happens in Final Fantasy games makes Other M's story seem like Crime and Punishment. I'm almost done with the game and the story is no where's near as bad as some folks on the old internet would make it out to seem.

In all honesty, the seemingly more linear gameplay and weird 3D game space without 3D controls are bigger causes for pause. Seeing the game demoed at SDCC, it felt very hand-holdy and cut-and-paste Serious Business action game which was more disheartening. However I haven't played it so I don't know. I have seen that particular cutscene though, and it didn't engender me to it any more. If the game plays bitchin I can deal with melodrama - but it's not gonna entice me to jump out and grab it today either.
As Tain has mentioned the controls work quite well. There are some annoyances, like when it goes into over the shoulder mode, but those aren't that often. Also when you're forced to find something in FP view can be annoying if you don't know what you're looking for.

It's not a perfect game by any means, but it's not a horrible mess either. If you played and liked Fusion, I can't see you not liking this.

For me personally I'd put the game some where between Prime (my fav in the series) and Fusion (about half way down in the series). Take that how ever you may.

    Good luck finding it.

  3. Took about an hour to get used to this, but the game settled in nicely. Just had several pretty awesome fights leading up to a boss, and the sense of exploration is definitely there.

I'm really happy to see some of the classic normal enemies return.

I borrowed Fusion and finished it without much a favorable impression...or a bad one. Just being miffed at being led along by the nose. So I'll probably rent/borrow/wait for this to be cheap.

  5. Two more gripes.

I wish you could pull the camera out during some of the mini boss fights. Fast moving enemies and a camera that 5" from the action puts you at a disadvantage.

They give you the heat resistant armor at the end of the volcano level. Let me say that again. At the end. How much sense does that make?

It's for when you backtrack to find all the super bombs that you only use to find more super bombs.

    Not exactly true.
They throw the credits at you early after some anti-climactic events. Once they're done rolling, you get thrown back in the game with access to everything (because you're now "authorized" to use your final power up) and are given a final goal. The game isn't over until you see the Items Collected % screen.

  10. Even with all of its faults, I am completely addicted to this game. As Shin has said previously, it is similar in many ways to Fusion. Having said that, I can't help but think how much better this game could be if it weren't for the following:

    - This game really does look like ass, especially on an HDTV. Not only because of the hardware restrictions but it really does feel like the development team was unfamiliar with the Wii...
    - The control scheme hampers the fast-paced action, at times. I find myself getting frustrated because of it moreso than the difficulty of the enemies
    - I don't mind the story, in fact, I welcome a more detailed and developed story in Metroid. I just wish it were a bit more "edgy".

This is a really good game, but as far as Metroid is concerned, I'm disappointed. I expect near perfection out of Nintendo when it comes to their top franchises and it simply feels like someone got of hold of Metroid and screwed around with it (Team Ninja). I keep asking myself, "Did Nintendo really oversee this"?
