Thread: Metroid: Other M

  1. I'm kind of enjoying the third person parts of the game. The game is easy, but at some times it's very annoyingly specific on what it wants from you: "Hey fucktard search around the room and find the green blood on the light green grass with 5 nanometers precision", "Fell in the water? Jump around like a faggot until you find the one very specific part of a ledge you can climb up, then finish a convoluted water puzzle that requires you to take a random wallkick leap of faith to get to the next section", Prime may have been very liberal with the franchise but atleast it was well designed.

"Rule No 4, Don't feed Mogwai Galactic Federation soldiers after midnight or they turn into Ridley and shit"

    The fault may lie elsewhere!
Did you find a legit, non-pirate cart to buy?

  3. After 100%ing this, a few more comments

    More Pros:
    upgraded weapons/suits look killer
The retun of the Metroid 1 yellow 'O-Rings' (Mother Brain stage) that shoot out near the end of the game (not a spoiler) was a trip and the sound the make was awesome
extra deleter boss after beating the game
music was great. the ending theme reminded me of 80's sci-fi flicks

    More Cons:
    instant health and missile regen
going into slow walking mode when approaching a cutscene or area with other character models(like Gears of War)
why were the stupid bathrooms even part of this game
having to do 'I Spy' searches to find a tiny dot on the screen in order to progress
several areas where there were absolutely no precedent on how to proceed (see dave's post)
what's the point in having % completion when you still dont have a way to get all items until after the game is finished and even then after the extra boss. pretty much leaves the remaining items useless for gameplay
the story got even more retarded than what is first presented. the ending was bunk the second ending was better

its worth at least playthrough, because there really is some good metroid gameplay and a couple of cool boss fights. other than that, it was pretty forgettable

Nintendo sucks. It's too bad it's 2005, and we can't patch games over the internet.

  6. How can they not? Release a file on the storefront and save to the system just like 360 games do. You can patch 360 games when they're not installed so I don't see a factor that would prohibit them from doing it besides just being Nintendo.

So I did go and buy Prime 3 (for $20 ). For every amazing thing that Prime 3 does right (especially the great controls and combat), it messes it up with hand-holding bullshit, clearly defined goals, and segmented world maps. So far the good is outweighing the bad and I'm having a great time, but the lack of "Metroid game" is supremely annoying. Looks like I should stay far, far away from "Other M" if they did in fact remove even more "Metroid game".

So... Is Metroid dead? Seems like there is no turning back from the structured narrative clear objective hand holding on Nintendo's part. Anything without the elaborate story would be seen as lazy and regressive by reviewers and most gamers. Then factor in that no Metroidvanias are on the horizon and the 3DS will most likely feature 3D games (and we all know how Castlevania fairs in 3D)...

Dude, the Wii has the capacity to store about 7 Turbographx games. No way I'm giving one of them up to hold a patch.

  9. I'm hoping the 3DS will still have 2D games, think of the parallax backgrounds you could do

Thank God for that. Maybe we'll get a real Castlevania here soon.
