certain Russian missile types can deploy up to 10 warheads per missile, and the subs which fire them can carry 20 missiles, so 200 warheads. But there aren't many of those subs sailing any more, so that number is iffy, even if they are just counting theoretically.
Oh I'm not saying they don't have any ICBMs any more, just that I find the amount that would be submarine launched is overly high. Russia is apparently only operating 3 Typhoon class subs due to operating costs, and they are the ones that carry the most warheads. So that's 600 warheads. There are 4 additional retired Typhoons, so theoretically that's 800 more warheads, so 1400 if everything was returned to coldwar status.
There are of course other sub classes in the Russian Navy, so 1000 warheads is very realistic, but nearly 3000 is extreme. There is no way they have that many subs deployed, which was Detour's original comment.
Funny thing is, those nukes from France would probably be more than enough to completely cripple this or any other country.
How soon they forget.
