Thread: Arika gains publishing rights for a PS2 home port of Cave's DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou

  1. being published by Capcom, i could see Progear squeaking its way towards a console.

--what would be awesome, would be this Akira company releasing a two game disc, with the ever elusive Dodonpachi 2:Bee Storm on disc one...and Dai-ou-jou on disc two...sweet dreams are made of these...save me money on a PCB...

  2. Ahhh yes, the game that makes me buy a Jap PS2. Wonderful news indeed. Thanks Bernard!

  3. It looks like PS2 becoming a system of choice for shmup fans

PS2 will have 4 or 5 shooters, where Xbox has 1, and Cube has 0.

    agreed.

its logical, seeing as how the installed user base is fucking massive, and shmups arent exactly the highest selling games, putting them on the PS2 is literally the publishers ONLY chance of making profit of the genre.

for some reason the GC strikes me as the ideal shmupping console, but it aint happening, so the PS2 will do just fine for me.

  5. Beautiful.

Of course, now I need a JP PS2... but oh well. It's a solid investment, anyway. Psyvariar, shikigami, night raid, DDPDOJ -- not such a bad line-up, really.

Edited to remove the foul, foul smilies.

  6. First Ikaruga comes back to life and now this. Looks like I'll have to stop putting off my Jap. PS2 purchase. Now if Raiden Fighters Jet got ported(Or at least part 1 or 2) I might actually cry from joy.

  7. Can't. Stop. DROOLING.

Man, this summer has been the best time ever for shmup fans. First the Ikaruga on DC news and this. Looks like I finally have no excuse but to get an import PS2 (unless someone here can say that they own a working, reliable modded PS2). Psyvariar wasn't quite enough for me to get an import PS2 but this totally clinches it. Maybe these two moves will encourage more companies to port shmups from now on.

  8. One of these days some of these PS2 shooters will get brought over to America in versions that can work on American PS2s.

On that day, I'll be a very happy man. Until then, feh. I ain't spending another $200+ on a console I already own, especially if I end up having to get that damned PS2 HD at some point.

But at least we American gamers have Silpheed 2 for the PS2, right? HA!

  10. This seals the deal for me, Jap PS2 time. This really is brilliant news, thanks for it BernD. Shooters really are alive and well.
