I'm pretty sure that the fact that he's Jewish has little to no bearing on the point of that trailer.

He's probably only Jewish because people like to laugh at Jews.

Well this movie is supposed to kind of be set in the Coen bros' childhood, so it's this 1960s conservative Jewish suburbia thing. It's even set in their home town in Minnesota.
