Thread: iPhone More Powerful than Wii

  1. Well duh. Just because the format of MIDI is capable of giving audio indistinguishable from a real instrument doesn't mean it's ever used that way. 99% of the time it's going to be pretty obvious, in the same way that 99% of the time CGI is unmistakable.

The problem is that, despite Nintendo having a downloadable games service, it's not a system suitable for downloadable games. I'd say it's Telltale's fault for shoehorning their game in to a format it wasn't suitable for. The full seasons would have worked fine on disc, no compression necessary.

  2. To be honest, given how weak WiiWare sales are, I'd imagine the game would sell much better on a disc, in fact. It does seem a bit silly.

All told they did a lot with it, all things considered. It doesn't look or sound like a 40 meg game, but there were definite compromises made to both versions, and the sound is a big one. I hear the framerate is pretty bad in the Wii one, too.

Frog speaks truth, there are a few Wiiware games I'd probably pick up as budget titles on disc, but not as DLC, partially because of the no internal memory/SD swap crap. Final Fantasy IV After Years, MM9 and Konami's rebirth games are all I've got.

Unrelated, but Yoshi's new sig is awesome.

My problem is with the incorrect usage of the word. The "lol that sounds like MIDI"
You sound fucking stupid. Fuck you.

You can look back through my posting history and see how many times this has happened. I can't help it. This is one of those things I'm always going to point out.

Since, you know, MIDI is not sound it can't sound like anything. All you faggots and your "sounds like MIDI" shit can go out and get fucked.

Again, it's the same as "lol, that looks like cgi." It's not that cgi has a specific look, but we've all seen shit that looks like cgi.

I do understand that MIDI is a process/interface and not a specific sound, and I wasn't misusing the term. I was using it accurately to describe the way the game was actually made and why it was made that way.

I've seen the term misused to describe FM music or PSG music or any cheap synth, and I get that that's wrong and why that would bug you, but I just didn't mean it that way at all. I just meant it was actually MIDI, and you can tell.

    Here's an example:

Go to 6:06, there's a good instrumental part with no dialog. It doesn't sound like a $10 casio keyboard, and in fact it's really not bad at all, but you can tell it's not a real band.

The story it's linked to is bait, but Yoshi didn't start this fire.

Anyway, we all know Wii is more powerful in the usual ways we think of power, but he does bring up some interesting points about how hard it can be to make a WiiWare game look good.
