Much like Tim Burton, Wes Anderson only makes one movie over and over.

Not sure that's completely awful. An adaptation should never ever be completely like the original. Tim Burton just doesn't have any love for craft anymore, so his adaptations in "Tim Burton" style are going to be heartless movie adaptations of logarithmic spirals.This is why guys like Anderson and Burton do NOT need to adapt anything that already has a style, they'll wash over it with their own look. Spike Jonze on the other hand, it not a stylized director, therefore he can adapt to whatever he's filming.
The difference is that every Anderson movie is a wonderful, fascinating bit of OCD. Burton really has two movies; The good one and the really fucking awful one.

Burton does not get enough credit for his range. Yes, he's been trying too hard to be what everyone expects him to be lately, but he's done some great fucking movies that aren't all spirally wrought iron gates and skeletons. In fact I'd say less than half of his movies really fit with that. NBX, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sweeny Todd, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, and the new Alice... that's about it really for the gothy stuff. Unless you count batman, and I don't.

Beetlejuice, NBX, and Edward Scissorhands were fantastic. He just tried to hard to copy them later with Corpse Bride and Sweeny Todd and shit.
