Thread: I have Guilty Gear Advance USA version. Bootleg?

  1. I have Guilty Gear Advance USA version. Bootleg?

I just recieved the Guilty Gear Advance, domestic, not import from an auction on Ebay.

Yet, this game hasn't been released to my knowledge. The manual is only 4 pages long, and the cartridge looks legit. Whats going on here? Did I get ripped off?

PS: I'm bringing it to pacrappa's when I get off from work. We'll find out if its legit...

  2. The game is not officially on sale, so whatever version you got, chances are you got ahold of something that's close to the retail version. Who knows, maybe someone at Sammy put it up for auction

I went and investigated what was going on with GGX Advance, since I was actually looking forward to it since I checked it out during a NY press tour.

The game for reasons that have not been disclosed by Sammy Entertainment called for a posteponemnet of the game until a later date. A statement has not been determined as to why this was done (this includes PR itself), but the guess is that they weren't satisfied with the current build and are further tweaking the game. This would explain why it was mysteriously pulled from retail databases.

This is one of those situations where, if you understand how and why things happen (postponements, marketing changes, etc). The best answer to say is "you know how it goes..."

In any case, you got it, enjoy it. What do you care if its bootleg? You Xbox fanboy.

  3. Flip the cartridge upside-down (Thanks Wilykat :P) so you can see the chipset. You should be able to read on the inside, "Copyright 2002 Nintendo" on it if it's official.

Bootlegs won't "Nintendo" imprinted on the chip.

  4. Its officially a bootleg. Its by a hacker group whose name now escapes me.

I reported the incident to Ebay and am going to try to get my money back.

  5. eBay does not seem to care at all about the pirate games that are being sold. I search for games on eBay all the time and it's fairly easy to find what are obviously pirates. I report them and eBay doesn't do anything. I even unwittingly bought a pirate GBA game once. Man, I was soooooo pissed off. You wouldn't believe.. eBay typically didn't do anything about it, but I scared the seller into giving me a full refund. I said that I was going to report them to eBay, PayPal, IDSA, their local police department, and the FBI and they sent me a full refund within 10 minutes.

Then I reported them anyway. Fucking pirates.

  6. Clearly a bootleg. Let's run down the list, shall we?

    1. Box a touch soft and flimsy
    2. Print on box a wee pixelated
    3. Nintendo "Racetrack" logo looking all blown out
    4. "Unique" cardboard tray for game
    5. Injection nipple on cart looking funky
    6. Imperfections in cartridge shell size
    7. Daylight showing through the seam between cartridge halves
    8. Triwing screw clearly tampered with
    9. Cart label too big for indentation
    10. Inner Nintendo jargon not matching up
    11. Four page manual
    12. Manual hugely stretched horizontal and squatted down a bit vertical
    13. Scrolling text at title screen that proclaims "we are the dillweeds known as Kalisto, Paradox etc etc...."
    14. Japanese text in game.

They put in the effort and I imagine some people are fooled. What a shame.

    Pa

  7. echelon I believe is the group who pirated the GGX advanced game for GBA
    Moo?

I didn't realize the game hadn't yet been released until I recieved the pirate copy. Only upon the clearly pirated version did I check the release date. When I see something on Ebay, I usually assume its RELEASED, but this time I was wrong.

  10. Ebay is really pissing me off. Their fraud protection is shit and they seem to be sedated when it comes to bootlegs lately. Right now there's an auction for a KOF 98 cart FOR GENESIS, for god's sake.

Hello? Hello? ebay, do you fucking read me? Wake the hell up!
