Thread: The Book of Eli

  1. Any TNLers seen it yet? I've got two tickets to Regal that are burning a hole in my pocket.
    2009 TNL Fantasy Football Champion

  2. Saw it past Saturday, and thought it was pretty good.

Denzel does great job, Oldman is always reliable as a baddie, cinematography and atmosphere is great Fallout vibe, and action bits are quite great. Denzel is a real bad-ass with the sword and a gun and has some great kills.

Definitely one of the better post Apocalypse flicks.

  3. ^^Agreed. The guy in Grave's link points out legitimate plot holes, but whatevs, I was still entertained throughout.

  4. If anyone was expecting more from this than geeking out over Oldman finally being evil again, and watching Denzel fuck shit up, well... That's silly. The biblical stuff is no more ridiculous than fantasy plot elements used to justify the action in any other flick.

*shrug* Go see it for mindless fun. If it offends your atheism, seriously, try to be a little less religious about the whole thing. You're sounding about as lame as Catholics protesting Dogma.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

  5. I was more irritated by the he can see! oh wait, he's blind! isn't that CRAZY? it's braille! ha ha! stuff. Is there any actual color to this movie or is it all as drab-looking as the TV spots?

It doesn't have a lot color, no.

Its good. Lots of action. You won't see the ending coming, probably.

It is pretty christian though. It is like the christian channel made a movie and actually got good actors.

  7. Its not necessary religious, but more of how religion can be used. Both good and bad, are after the same thing (in this case bible), but the reasons are quite different, while both will use the words in the book to bring people in.

And the twist, is not a bullshit, as that crappy live journal wanna be review makes it to be.

  8. Good soundtrack.

Oh, it is pretty religious. And the flavor is christian. The ending itself is a very subtle refference to something Jesus talks about over and over again.

I guess people who haven't read the bible won't pick up on it though. They don't actually say "oh hey, this crap they just said, it from John 2:12."
