Thread: Inception

  1. Awesome. Didn't know anything about it, didn't like either of Nolan's Batmans, but I loved this thing.

  2. Not too shabby. Definitely a Chris Nolan movie: intense, mysterious, brooding, and humorless. I was kind of hoping for some more surreal/fantastic imagery rather than just spinning around and blowing up realistic locales, but I get why that would be kind of incompatible with the movie's theme of second guessing reality.

  3. This was excellent. Thought provoking and full of action at the same time. Best film I've seen this year.

  4. This was way better than I expected. I fucking love Tom Hardy. The only problem is whenever I see him I think of him as Bronson, which is highly distracting.

  5. I can't say I didn't enjoy watching this, but the idea of seeing it again any time soon isn't very appetizing. Nolan did a horrible job showing, not telling in Dark Knight and an even worse one here. Exposition for fucking days. Almost every line of dialogue in the movie was to explain the science behind the concept or prompt explanation. How many of Ellen Page's lines were questions? 80%? 90%? Her reaction to entering Leonardo DiCaprio's dream wasn't "Holy SHIT I can't believe this is possible," but "What was his wife like?" How am I expected to care about any of these people?

  6. As much as ppl rail against Hollywood for regurgitating other medium's ideas (superheroes, 80's cartoons, etc) and not having an original thought, I'm glad I went to support this movie.

First thought: this will be the new Blu-Ray test film for new A/V setups.

Second thought: liked that it was heavy on an idea, rather than tits/ass/Cruise/McG/GIJoe.

Final thought: can't say it was super-awesome like the rest of you, but I will give it 3 stars; I Liked It.

  7. No tits, then? Hm.

  8. It performed well at the box office, meaning the internet hasn't stupefied the taste and shortened the attention spans of the masses as bad as I thought.

EDIT: as far as arbm's complaints, I don't know if he could have in the 2 1/2 hrs he cut it down to. probably should have been two movies.

  9. Yeah, it was complex enough to necessitate a lot of exposition. Now that the science is out of the way, I'd love to see a more character-driven sequel.

And I don't really get your Hitchcock comparison, Doctor Holliday! Please explain, please.

  10. The mind fucks? This, The Prestige, Insomnia and Memento?

I used to say it was M. Night, but his movies went to shit after #4 and none of them have the reply value Nolan's do. If it's the action angle that throws you, To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest are both quite action packed by 1950's pre-Kurosawa-Leone standards.
