Thread: TNL Movie Club: INSIDE MAN

  1. TNL Movie Club: INSIDE MAN

"From a cell, a man tells us he has planned the perfect bank robbery; he invites us to watch. An efficient gang enters a Manhattan bank, locks the doors, and takes hostages. They work deliberately, without haste. A snarky detective facing corruption charges is assigned to negotiate. The bank's president has something to protect in a safe deposit box, so he brings in a high-powered fixer. With an army of police surrounding the bank, the thief, the cop, and the plutocrat's fixer enter high-stakes negotiations. Why are the robbers asking for a plane - they know they won't get one. Why aren't they in more of a hurry? If the job's perfect, why is the thieves' leader in a cell?" -from IMDB.com

I love caper movies. Inside Man works as a stylish caper flick, but it's more ambitious than that. It's a Spike Lee joint, so race plays a part in the movie, albeit a secondary one. I'm interested to see what people have to say about this movie. Jodie Foster puts in some good work ("you're a magnificent cunt!"), and Clive Owen is excellent.

  2. I've seen this a few times, its a pretty sweet movie.

    NOT ON NETFLIX INSTANT

  4. Spike Lee still doesn't call all of his movies joints does he?

  5. Great film, and one that along with Shoot Em Up, made Clive Owen more palatable to me.

  6. I dug this in theaters, one of Spike Lee's best. I think it was his biggest box office hit too. I love caper movies too.

  7. This movie was a let down for me. It had such an excellent trailer, it really got me pumped. When I saw the the movie I was enjoying it a lot, but it completely lost me as it entered the third act and came to a close. The build up was great, but I thought the end did not live up to everything that came before.

  8. I saw this movie upon its release, and I remember liking it. However, I don't remember what the "twist" to this movie is. I even bought it on HD DVD for $3, but I never watched it....so I guess I'll be watching this sometime this week.

  9. It's Spike Lee's best because it feels the least like a Spike Lee movie.

  10. Can't really argue with that.
