This is why I'll never take such an aggressive stance against criminal offenses such as armed robbery, or DUI. If you're going to execute someone there should be no doubt that they can't be rehabilitated (and lets face it, someone robs you it sucks but there's insurance and it's just a fucking TV in the end) and death is the only solution. Some guy who robbed a store with a gun to get a plasma can rot in a cell for 15 - 20 years. Someone who shoots up stores and kills for sport are a different breed.

The methodology isn't wrong, the severity of the sentencing is.

Actually with OJ they had the best prosecutor they had in LA on that, with tons of support. What really screwed it up either way was the fact of the LAPD's lingering racism, Judge Ito's incompetence on multiple levels and a sympathetic (to the jury) figure. Innocent or guilty, that trial was fucked, and since it was a trial by jury, jury nullification so long as it was not contradicted by the evidence stands.

As for Ted Kennedy, that canard has to die. At most it was involuntary manslaughter, he drove into a lake and fled the scene like an idiot. He was charged with leaving the scene and plead out rather than going to trial, he could have fought that tooth and nail and gotten off on reasonable doubt.

Funny that he got home, made 3 fucking business calls, and slept before he decided he'd have to deal with the problem.
