Picked up Brutal Legend yesterday and spent a few hours with it. REALLY enjoying this game, it's a lot of fun so far, but I find myself not exploring very much so that I can keep doing story missions, which I feel is wrong since it's such a big world with lots of shit to see.
Silent Hill 2 is the best horror game of all time and Dead Space sucks. One has a legitimately creepy and pervasive atmosphere, the other just tries to recreate Resident Evil Dogs Jumping Out Of The Window at every corner.
I do like, though, how the arrival of a Dead Space enemy is so often heralded with a screech of violin screens to remind you, in case you forgot, that this is a scary game! Better corpse stompin' and limb disenfranchisin' physics Dead Space, too.
the best parts of Dead Space are the first time you open the menu and like the first twelve stomps on a dead body to remove its limbs. it's kinda downhill after that.
Fuck you both, Dead Space is amazing.
I don't get all the praise on SH2. You want scary? Play Fatal Frame.
Silent Hill 2 may be scarier than Dead Space and it doesn't drag on as long but I don't think it's the better game overall. I like how Dead Space forces you to choose wisely about your upgrades because it won't let you have them all. It's kind of like System Shock 2 in that regard (and in general atmosphere). Speaking of which, Shock 2 is better than both of them.
