I have heard ridiculously bad things about this movie
LOL PSYCHE
This movie looks awesome and only cocks wouldn't watch it.
like what? pretty much it follows the book, so did they like the book but not the movie?
edit: browsing reviews and forums while trying to make a selection, there were a few people that missed some points. I tried to add a few of the stumbling blocks into the summary to cover some of the questions I saw.
It wasn't quite a split overall 80/20, but i figured it would be more of a like on the TNL side, as many of the negatives were coming from folk who preferred the 1st type of perfume movie above.

I think it was Nathan Rabin's review for it on The AV Club, I don't really remember specifics. Just that it was bombastic and silly. And it looked like that, so I just sort of didn't bother.
BUT APPARENTLY THERE ARE OPPOSING VIEWS
I wasn't trying to be brash, that was a sincere question, just wanted to hear some of the criticism that's out there. This is far from a movie I will defend wholeheartedly as it's not everyone's cup of tea and not even in my favorite films. But it was unique and I thought there could be some good discussion generatedBUT APPARENTLY THERE ARE OPPOSING VIEWS
Dug up the review I was thinking of: http://www.avclub.com/articles/perfu...murderer,3646/
Just read Nathan Rabin's Review. He has some really good quotes:
"Perfume" is a terrible, terrible film that everyone should see and will haunt me until the day I die. It's kinda the same for me just not as drastic of a polarization. I was able to justify the shortcomings with the technical detail put into the film. It's a singular, wildly original movie that has gotten under my skin and affected me deeply. I'll remember it long after I've forgotten films I like much better. Yet I also kind of hated it. It's pulling me very strongly in two opposite directions.
One thing that really got me on the dislike side, (spoilered so if you haven't watched it dont read) in the last scene on the execution stand, why was alan rickman's character not affected by the passion that was filling the crowd. how was he able to withstand the power of the scent. my thought were possibly the hatred he was holding onto was far greater than the rest of the people???
Edit:
Beat me to it![]()

I read the book years ago and I've had the movie sitting unopened in the corner for a few months now.
This'll be a good excuse to watch it.
Boo, Hiss.
