I don't think you're following this conversation very well, Yeller. Maybe you should sit this one out.

I just want to watch fucking Life During Wartime, Mr. Nobody, Leaves of Grass, and Repo Chick.
Literally every movie I'm excited about now that Inglourious Basterds has come and gone, is lacking a distribution deal of any kind. This is not. fucking. good. I'm not saying they need to be on 2,000 screens, but they're not even being released at all.

Well, not every movie gets distribution outside of festival circuit immediately. That's just the way of things. How long did it take "Feast" to get any kind of distribution? That thing was in the can for quite a while before you could see it in any form outside of the major cities.
Seems like it's within the filmmakers'/producers'/distributors' responsibilities to assure their film has a) an audience and b) a way for the audience to see the movie. Getting a movie into theaters is Not Easy. Getting a movie onto a DVD/On Demand/Web/Whatever? Maybe a bit easier.

Some of them don't at all, though. There are good movies that never get released. At all. And that number seems to be increasing. And many of the movies that do get deals after years end up selling for below cost. If that trend continues, the funding to make these movies will dry up.

There have ALWAYS been movies that sit on the shelf indefinitely. For every 10 that get made 1 will actually see any kind of distribution (I may be skewing VERY high on this ratio).
You make a B-Movie with Drew Barrymore or whoever in 1991, it maybe doesn't get seen for ten years, then it's straight to video. And that's IF the distributor was having a slow week.
Nevermind the GRILLION tv pilots that will never ever see the light of day.

I'm not saying it's never happened before, I'm saying that credible sources indicate that it's happening much more now than it has in the past, and there will be repercussions of that.
It also, frankly, usually happens to shit movies, and not an overwhelming number of movies that are promising-looking and on my radar.
