Thread: New Super Mario Bros. - Wii

  1. #311
As a kid, Super Mario Bros. was brutal for me. I remember the trepidation I felt at the cheep-cheep bridge stages, and that last stairway to the flag that was just every other block floating by itself SHIT.

Now I find it easy, but yeah.

Also: just bought this, will play some tonight oh em gee

  2. After reading the professional reviews, I definitely want this game. I didn't realize it wasn't just an upgrade of the DS NSMB but a whole new game. If the Wii rev is that much better I'm almost tempted to get a Wii to play it.

    Almost.

And I like the option to have the game play through a level by itself... because I won't be tempted to use it. It's clearly cheating. Plentiful 1ups and continues are another story.

    No gnus is good gnus.

  3. I annoint this game as one being worthy of a full price purchase. This is fact for I have spoken.

I grabbed it as well, and I'm having fun with it. It's not as good as the 16 bit games, but it is better than the ds game (which I did like.)

I had a nerdgasm when I got to the end of world 1 and saw the magikoopa painting the screen in rainbow colors.

Finally got to play it last night, 2 player co-op, and finished off the first world.

So far it's pretty damn great. I am really, really enjoying it.

Yeah, the nods to the old stuff are great. I'm surprised I still remember the names of the Koopa Kids, and seeing that magikoopa shit rainbows was rad.

  6. I like this game! Everything that isn't waggle is great. Everything that is waggle is bad. I'm one of the two people ever that doesn't think that waggle is horrible in every circumstance (Reggie Fils-Aime is the other), but really the way it's used is inappropriate, completely unnecessary, and does nothing for the game besides make the player have to sit and think for a second how to move the controller. This is not how games should feeeeeel, Reg.

    P-P-P-Pass.
I think others mentioned this since I last posted in this thread, but the game is hard for Mario standards -- they just toss a TON of 1ups at you in this game. Don't let the huge number of lives get in your way of enjoying this great game.

Harder than Galaxy? I think you need to play Galaxy again.

I love the 2D mario formula, so that's why I kept an ear out for these info things. But hey, if Geen wants to come out and say he was at 160 lives at some point in the game, ok we'll talk.
Would it help if I said I did die a fair amount? I just scored a ton of 1ups since 1up mushrooms and coins are everywhere. Also, just doing a run through of the game (Not doing every stage, not

I kept wondering why I would have a hat when I finished a level but would then be hatless when I got back to the map! That's awesome!

I've died more times in a single NSMBW level than I did in Galaxy's 120 stars combined. ..not counting Luigi's Purple Coins, I guess.

  9. Yeah, I like this so far. I'd even say that there's stuff in World 2 here harder than anything in NSMB DS. I still think the inclusion of auto-play is whuagadsf, but if it made this game turned out the way it did rather than like the DS game, whatever.

Co-op is definitely a lot to manage, too.

I love the way auto play was handled in this game. The only time I saw it was when I kept dying on one of the castle stages and, after about ten deaths, a message came up asking if I wanted to have Luigi show me how to play my game since I obviously suck (Which I kindly declined).

I would never use the auto play feature, but if it gives me a more challanging and enjoyable game overall than I am all for it.
