Fuck that place.
that cross gender bunny would want to cut off the countries wang
Hard to say whether or not you'll dig FL. Suppose it has it's benefits and drawbacks like any other place. Sounds more like you're unhappy there, and from my own personal experience, change of venue for you could be 50/50. I would say head down to Sarasota, somewhere like that. Venice is nice, I think. Never spent much time up in the panhandle, though, so Panama City could be just what you need. I would just hope that a move anywhere would be sincerely what you need; I know I made the mistake of moving to 'find a place I was happy', and ended up (eventually) being just as miserable in one place as I was another.
Personal experience, I know I hated this place pretty much all my life, until I moved. Over the last three years, though, I've gained an appreciation for it. Be it ever so humble, y'know?
I lived just outside Panama City when I was stationed at Tyndall AFB in 1993-94. Beautiful white sandy beaches with lots of young, beautiful women. But culturally and politically, you're in lower Alabama. There's a church and strip joint on every block, but no gambling because it's immoral. I remember seeing a fat bald guy smiling on my TV from a nearby Alabama station saying that NYPD Blue would not be shown because it didn't meet community standards.
Oh yeah, hurricanes. In 1995 I was in Korea. Called my old roommate. He said that there was two feet of water everywhere and our old place was ruined.
Either you like it or you don't. I loved Texas, but Florida was not my cup of tea.

Do it, IMO. I've lived in Portland all my life and truly love it here. I'm pretty fond of the PNW in general. If you don't mind a bit of rain, the weather here is comfortable... we've still got our share of sunny summer days, and while it typically doesn't snow all winter long, last year we had a ton so you never know. I can be downtown, at the beach, hiking in the forest, or skiing on Mt. Hood in an hour.
I want to travel as much as possible, but I feel like as long as I'm in the States then Oregon will be home.
Portland, ME would also fit Shidoshi's bill, but without all the single mothers of the other Portland.
Hampton Beach, NH is nice if you like the Atlantic City feel, along with one of my favorite arcades:
