Look, I've never totally understood drug/alcohol addiction, because it always seemed to me like something where you know what you're getting into the moment you start. If I was somebody famous and making money, the last thing I'd want to do is become another statistic by pissing it all away with drugs.
But what I do understand is getting to a point in your life where you do seriously contemplate death, because one thing or another inside of you has gotten so bad that that seems like the best option. Is that a respectable thing to do, killing yourself? Of course not. But while it is true that doing something like that can be the coward's way out and selfish, we also have to remember that the person had gotten to such a low point in their lives mentally and emotionally that they allowed that idea to become a valid thought. How much can we really blame a person for getting to that point? Nobody in their right mind would want to be there, and even the strongest of us could find ourselves there depending on what happens to us in life.
Maybe Faryley's ODing was because he was a drug addict and decided that he wanted to waste away the great life that he had with a stupid addiction. But maybe he was also a person with serious problems, and drugs were the unfortunate way he found of trying to deal with them. Either way, though, the fact is the guy died, and his death doesn't make him a monster undeserving of some level of sympathy. Save that kind of attitude for the people who truly deserve no remorse, people who murder or rape children or other such examples.
