Thread: Darksiders: Wrath of War

  1. I just started playing this last night on Apocalyptic. Got through the Crossroads and am about to enter Samael's prison. I like it so far. Combat isn't deep at all but it makes up for it with the action-adventure trappings. I don't know anything this Joe Mad guy did but I really like the look of the game too. Overall it reminds me of Soul Reaver more than Zelda. Fortunately Soul Reaver was rad.

  2. Yeah, I got a Soul Reaver vibe from it too. One of my favorite things about Darksiders was that it was always trying to throw something new at you. It's been a while since I played it but if that is the first time you visit Samael things are about to get really good. Shit, taking about this makes me want to fire it up again.

  3. Joe Mad mostly made lots of unfinished comicbooks. I don't think any of them looked as good as his stuff in Darkstalkers.

  4. How about his stuff in Darksiders?

  5. It was all trash, obviously.

  6. His last few Battle Chasers issued were damn impressive.

They also took him like two years an issue to make.

Oh, he really did Darkstalkers work? I thought you just typed that by accident.

  8. I did, I was just pretending I meant to do that.

  9. I'm like 1/2 - 3/4 of the way through this game. There are some aspects of it, that I REALLY like. The way it tries to do a lot of different things, so that each section feels fresh and different is really cool. Just seems like there's always this one issue in each section that drives me nuts, part of it are issues with the controls, some times issues with the design. Like 1 hit kills, I think at this point in my life that kind of stuff just pisses me off. Not that I want a game to be easy. Its just when you have a section where you have to keep redoing the whole thing cause of a 1 hit kill, it just annoys me. Maybe that's more issues with me than with the game.

One area of the controls that piss me off is the delay with jumping. I'm just used to like every other action game letting you run just to the edge of a ledge and pressing the jump button. It seems here, least in the PS3 version, there's a slight delay and you have to press the button a few frames earlier. The game has a really solid base, and does some really fun stuff, just needed some more polish. I'm looking forward to the sequel though, I have hopes that Vigil learns how to get that extra bit of polish in there and gives us something really solid.

I've never encountered any of these issues. The jumping was always spot-on, and I don't remember any enemies strong enough to kill you with one hit.

You guys make me want to play this again.
