Well it's super, super low budget. Louie does it all himself without FX's involvement for a budget that is literally less than the average basic cable reality show.
He said he took the offer over 7-figure/episode network sitcom offers because they would A) give him full executive control of the show with no interference or input and B) let him do it in New York so he could be with his daughters.
So I think as long as it's pulling some ratings and getting good buzz, they'll want to keep it around. I have a feeling when it ends it'll be because Louie has other things to do, since the show is a massive time commitment for him.
