Were you playing FFA? The spawning in front of enemies etc. issue shouldn't ever come up in team play and if it does, is easily fixed in the map editor. Part of team play in Halo 3 was controlling enemy spawns and I'd be surprised if the system had changed much. I'm a fan of the melee change since it encourages actual shooting and using headshot weapons, and from what little I played I really liked the feel of the DMR, pistol, and needler rifle. And personally I prefer not having a huge banner come up when you kill people (MW2 style).
Sword base 1 flag ctf. The attackers have no real base. You spawn all over the place - sometimes right in front and above the flag room, sometimes way on the other side of the map (and someimtes on top of grenades). Compare that to say H3's high ground: attackers have their own base near the beach - or orbital: attackers spawn in the upper sections of the ship. Its definately different in Reach.

Oh, alright, yeah. I played that gametype yesterday and you do seem to spawn everywhere. Shouldn't be a big problem as it's fixed by just changing spawn points in the map editor.
So I'm just going to eat crow now and get it over with. This is easily the most fun I have had with a multiplayer FPS, even if it does require troglodyte controls.
I really miss B being the punch button and using the bumper to switch grenade types, theres probably a way to configure it that way but I havent checked. I can't deal with melee being a bumper
It's a lot more useful that way though since you can aim while meleeing. I stuck with default in Halo 3 just because I didn't want to have to get used to bumper jumper, but might as well now since it's a new game.
Also, I didn't notice yesterday that your current location is listed next to the minimap. Pretty nice touch as it standardizes callouts.
