Thread: X-Men : First Class

  1. Best moment of the movie right there.

Pretty much all this. Didn't feel at all like the standard superhero origin movie (I hate those so much) and there was so much going on that there wasn't even time for the underdeveloped characters to bug me (did Shaw's male sidekicks have any lines at all?). Everyone had a purpose and enough screentime and interaction to feel like they weren't just tacked-on even with there being like 15 characters or whatever.

Watching this took me back about 20 years to a certain comic book I read. Can't recall what was going on or even which one it was, but someone (probably random group of X-Men) was fighting Shaw in the only time I've ever seen him. It was a pretty interesting battle because they had to take him down in weird ways so as to not screw themselves over by actually fighting him, and I remember wondering what it would be like to show off his power in a movie and thinking it couldn't really be done. Maybe it's just that special effects have come so far since then, but they did a pretty good job with that in this movie. I love you, Kevin Bacon.

Now just have the studio pretend X3 never happened like they did with the Wolverine movie and this whole series is in good shape.

  2. Yeah, I always got a kick out of it in the comics when the X-Men would have to fight Shaw indirectly to avoid feeding his powers, like Cyclops shooting the floor out from under his feet or Nimrod the Sentinel reversing the effect of gravity on him so Shaw went flying into outer space and shit like that.

  3. Are Darwin and/or Havok gay in the comics?

  4. On that note, was Darwin even a character in the comics? He was pretty stupid. OH HAI WATER GIVES ME GILLZ

  5. I had to look it up but apparently he was.

  6. I love the very natural way they all got their "nicknames," how subtly Professor X sustained his injury, and how cool Erik looked in his cape when he said, "I prefer 'Magneto!'"

  7. I now need to watch this with all the hype.

Also, Darwin had the potential to be the most broken mutant in the entire Marvel universe. Didn't he die in Shi'Ar space or at least written away?

  8. Just got back, I'd see it again.
