In Korean, the word hangook means a korean person and migook means an American person. So it stands to r eason that gook originally referref to Koreans. But Nam followed on the heels of Korea so servicemen probably borrowed slurs, so its probably ok to apply it either way. Not to the Japanese though.

Gook is Vietnamese. It might have meant something at another point in time, and your average racist might not care enough about nationality to properly discern country of origin before throwing it around, but it's specifically Vietnamese anyway.
