Thread: This Just In: Nintendo Doesn't Get It

  1. I almost never agree with Yoshi but since he appreciates the glory of Dino Crisis 2 he will always be okay in my book.

As a supplemental system it's not so bad, but who'd buy multiplatform games for Wii? I have to think that if it came down to PS2 or Wii for some titles, a lot of people are still going to pick the PS2 version.

They must run a lot of ads on uninteresting primetime crime shows because my mother and sister both think that they really want a Wii and I don't think either has ever spent a dime on video games that were for themselves. Not really hurting Sony or MS any!

  2. (I thought that was the whole point though - Nintendo looking to "expand" the market instead of fight for market share)

My mom even said she wanted a Wii and she has always given me shit for playing video games.

God damn it. I hadn't thought about how much that needs a real sequel all year until you mentioned it.

    b) Modern Warfare is...get ready for it...the most casual-friendly, highly marketable to the mainstream FPS ever, ever.

I'd argue the only reason the MW series sells well is it's very, very, VERY casual. Regen health? Check. On-rails levels? Check. Arcadey pace? Check. Casual up and down.
I was using it as an example of a non-Wii game selling extremely well. I agree with you that it is the most pussified game in the series.

  6. MW2 is a casual FPS, but you can't even compare it to something like The Biggest Loser (most appropriately named game for anyone who actually buy this shit).

  7. No, you really can't. One game sold millions and the other sold what, maybe a dozen copies to people who like the show's merchandise.

Oh, I thought you were using it as an example of "fret not, true gamers! We can ignore the Wii's success because lo, here is MW2. The pinnacle of all true gaming stands for, selling 3 million on day 1," when in fact MW2 is, as you said, the most watered down (AND FUN) FPS to date.

  9. News Flash: Games that sell 6 million copies in one week target the lowest common denominator!

Someone in this discussion is forgetting that "hardcore" no longer means "people who read GameFan and think Ichinishi Daibouken Gaiden is way underrated.'" It now just refers to "the traditional 'gamer' market."

The classic notion of hardcore isn't going away, but it was never mainstream by definition and has little place in any discussion of what's selling or isn't.

  10. I think nintendo's definition of hardcore is 'people who have played our old games and are more likely to purchase something resembling those games than mindless waggle mini-game collections and licensed shovelware.'
