The crew of the spaceship Palamino stumbles across the ''lost'' ship U.S.S. Cygnus, hovering on the edge of an immense black hole. Once aboard, they find the ship is manned by robots - it's only human inhabitant, one Dr. Hans Reinhardt; an eminent scientist, missing for the past twenty years. His plan - to enter the Black Hole. Whether Dr. Reinhardt is a genius or a mad-man, one thing is for sure: he will not be denied his life's dream.
What lies beyond the Black Hole?
This is one of my favorite sc-fi films ever. Used to watch the hell out of it, and I even had the tape/book for it.(When you hear this sound, turn the page!)
Yes it's from 1979 and it's extremely cheesy. TELEKINETIC ROBOTS! CRAZED SCIENTISTS! ANTHONY PERKINS! You can see the wires on everybody and everything. But still, the movie has some good production values, an epic soundtrack, and Maximillian is one of the most awesome robots ever. And, as you can see on the poster, it has a pretty epic cast. Perkins, Robert Forster, Maximillian Schell, Ernest fuckin' Borgnine, and the voices of Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens. A bit of trivia: This was Disney's first PG rated film, due to language and death.
Enjoy!
Special thanks to SSJN for gifting me the DVD of this so I didn't have to watch along with my aging VHS copy.
EDIT: Also, I would like to mention that this film has one of the most surrealistic out there endings I've ever seen, especially for a film like this.

I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.
This flick is super rad, nice pick. One of my all time favorites and one of the first DVDs I ever bought. Havent watched it in awhile and I heard the first batch of DVDs by Anchor Bay have bit rot, so I hope it still works.
Also, I had the same read along storybook, except it wasnt a tape. Now where did I put that 45
Nostalga is a bitch. I thought this movie was totally rad when I was a kid. But upon watching it recently, I discovered that it's actually kinda retarded. Not terrible (the effects and design work are still cool), but chock full of cheese galore.

I'm aware of the cheesiness, I said as much. I don't mind it at all. It adds to the charm, imo.

I actually got this from Netflix like two weeks back. It had been a long time since I saw it, and I remembered it being far creepier and scarier than it was. (But I suppose it would be when you're a kid.) Very cheesy indeed, but still kind of fun.
