Thread: TNL's 20 Favorite Games of All-Time

  1. Best level design, best bosses, multiple characters to play ass, multiple paths through levels. It has it all, the only negative is that it's easier than Castlevania 3.

    Oh and best graphics of all the clasis style games as well.

  4. Those sound like pretty good reasons. I was playing the PSP remake the other day; probably my first old-school Castlevania outing since middle school.

    I'm not going to argue this because I somewhat agree, but the lack of difficulty knocks it down a few notches for me. It's the only game in the (classic) series that I finished without dying. Everything else about it is awesome, though. Castlevania III might be up there.

    Interesting list, though. I don't think I'd have voted for much of anything on there, but then again this isn't a list about individual taste. We can't complain about the results because it's exactly what we told it to be.

    Interesting list nonetheless. It reminds me a bit of some of the oddness that occasionally crops up in the shmups.com annual top 25 poll, where games like Shikigami no Shiro II end up at a fairly high position because everyone personally ranks them fairly low on their own personal lists, but the wildly varying games in the upper echelons of each individual list mean that none of them end up coming out particularly high overall. I suspect, for instance, that Super Mario Bros. was not ranked very high on any individual list but simply appeared on a lot of them.

    Frankly I thought the 8-way whip made the game too easy, it's only redeeming quality was swinging. SC4's soundtrack is superb, equaled only by SotN and the graphics are some of the best of the 16 bit era. Plenty of memorable stage themes and a ton of small details for a 8 meg cart. Rondo has the better boss collection but otherwise I'll take SC4.
