it is still fun to just react to it too.
I never did play for rings. I just liked running around and killing robots
All the obstacles are avoidable, and if you're attentive you'll see them coming even on your first try. That said, Sonic is a bit like Mirror's Edge in that you really only get the full experience after familiarizing yourself with the stages, because you're thinking more about how to use the level rather than just reacting to it.
Basically, the games really shine best on subsequent plays.

Metropolis Zone is the only level in the series that has a significant number of spike-wall-hidden-around-the-corner sort of cheap hits imo. Never dying as long as you have a ring also softens the blow of that kind of stage design in the first place, though. You're expected to put forth a little bit of trial and error in most stages, I think.

wasn't Mickey like Bugs Bunny in the beginning, playing jokes on other characters?
No, Mickey never tricked Goofy into shooting Donald with a 12-gauge.
uh yeah. Like any other comic, he acted like an adult. And he was a serious asshole sometimes.
Disney has had a pretty common trend of making characters that are tricksters and making them softer later, only to intrduce a new trickster.
Mickey was an asshole. So they toned him down. Then Donald was an asshole, they later toned him down.
Shit, half of Donald's comics were him trying actively to KILL goofy. Later they toned him down to the character that was tormented by chip and dale. And as you know, Chip and dale were later toned down.
Disney does this over and over again.
i remember being able to get a perfect bonus on the first 2 areas of sonic 2 and the first metropolis zone stage. i think with those first couple of stages it was easier to go back to get rings you missed. in the rush games there are a lot of points early on where once you go down a certain path there's no way back...but at that point it wasn't even important to get all the rings.
+ in sonic rush enemies mean nothing. you can run right through them once you know where they are and use the rush meter or whatever it's called. i think the enemy rooms are pretty silly. i get why they're there but it feels kinda pointless.
i played a little of sonic advance 2 yesterday and i get what frog means about it being a speed game. it does seem a little more possible to go back and explore for rings, though. and there'a a ring score at the end of the stages.
