Thread: TNL Pub 2010

  1. I stopped by the local beer store yesterday and grabbed a 4 pack of Allagash Black which was good but not great. The important news is they had The Bruery's Tart of Darkness, which as far as I was aware has only been available on the west coast. Stormy brought one back east last Christmas and I've been dreaming about it ever since. At 20 bucks a pop for a bomber it's a little pricey but I'm definitely grabbing at least two. I'm not sure if they'll store particularly well since it's only 5.6% but then again I've never understood all the different ideas on how well beer ages.

For those of you on the east coast who haven't tried it, if you see it definitely pick one up if you like sours and stouts!

  2. My friend is apparently proud of himself because he found a beer he likes.

But that beer isn't a beer. It's a fucking cider.

Apparently Smirnoff's and malts of the like are ALSO beers to them.

Frankly, I'm APPALLED at this misnomer. I'm about ready to break off any friendship I had.

Nah, from what I remember it doesn't taste anything like Coors. But you're right, it's far from a "beer drinker's beer." Which is exactly what I want sometimes. I've been known to enjoy a frosty 40 oz of Steel Reserve on occasion as well. True story. And you better believe that I pour a little out for my dearly departed and incarcerated homies when I do.
...because without the bitter, baby, the sweet ain't as sweet.

    I prefer cider to beer.
    Boo, Hiss.

  5. Cider is good, nothing wrong with a good cider. But there isn't the variety or complexity there is with beer, so I kind of just drink it when it's around and don't think about it.

  6. Hey, I love cider. Don't get me wrong. A nice Apple-Ginger Angry Orchard makes me pretty happy.

It ain't a beer. Mikes Hard and Smirnoff ain't, either. This particular group of pals of mine gets my beer snob gland secreting anger juices over alcohol nomenclature.

  7. Any fellow San Diegans going to Stone's Pour It Black festival?

I knew a girl like that. She would always say "smirnoff" was her favorite beer.

I've never hated another human being as much as I hated her. Everyday she'd let little pig's droppings like that leave her mouth.

    any preferences?

  10. I had a Troegs Java Head stout. It's pretty damn dark and not all too smooth. I wish the coffee flavor was a bit more prominent. Still pretty good, though.

Also, went to the Pennsylvania Renn Faire and came back with some of Captain Rude's Blackwater Stout. THAT is a smooth, friggin' stout. Recommended.
