Thread: Why Do We Buy What We Don't Play?

Get the desire to play something 5 years after release and don't already have it, then you have to hope the aftermarket value didn't shoot up or you've gotta play russian roulette with the availability and conditions of used copies at Gamestop. You want it 10+ years after release, basically eBay and private sellers are your only option. The back catalog kept available at retail for games is severely limited and wildly inconsistent comparative to any other medium, so that instills a "better get it while the gettin's good" mentality.
This is it. Nothing grinds my gears like paying more than MSRP for a used game. So many of my purchases aren't because I want the game all that much, but because I'm trying to avoid a theoretical situation in the future where I DO want it, but have to pay too much for a crapped-up copy.

It's stupid, but I think I'm getting better...

Oblivion would have been so much better if there was no main story and you just kind of figured it out as you went.

However, this thread is about games we buy that don't get played, and multiplayer games that people do buy and do play, don't fall into the pile of shame.
Who are you pretending to be?

Pretty much this. Last night I actually typed this up 4 times, but each time, just deleted it. I figured it would turn into that thing where I type up a paragraph and either my grammar or other's ability to read fails TNL and I'd end up argueing with someone that doesn't even know what I'm saying for a day. Fuck that.

"TNL likes MP as much now as it used to like RPGs"
"OMG YOU ARE STUPID, MP ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN RPGS"
    "...you are proving my point"
"NO I AM NOT, EAT SHIT. NECK BEARD"

I mean shit, both Yoshi and Diff understand what I said.

blame has nothing to do with it. No one at the time blamed TNL for making them buy import games for inflated prices. And not all of those imports were bad. Some of them were fun. A lot of people liked TNL then, and enjoyed importing and liked most of the games they imported. You are looking back with the negative bias you've gathered through experience.

All I'm saying is that TNL has a certain way it treats the golden child "popular games." It pretty much treats MP games now, the way it used to treat TahTah Magic Manna Boat.

    "But IP, You are wrong."

Yeah, I'll remember that next time I see a whole page in the Haul thread with 5 assholes, one after the other, with the same Super Buttplug Ed of the newest MP game.

Pretty much. Otherwise he wouldn't care enough to argue about it.

  5. Super TahTah Magic Manna Boat was way better.

  6. Super Buttplugfield Badass Crotch 2 really is the best MP game released in a long time. Stop being gay and go buy it for the DickBox 360. Jap RPG's and importing are for the faggers.

Yes, I completely agree that playing a game does not put it in the pile of shame. I am glad both of you agree with me too.

  8. what are you talkin about

this all started because you read something nobody wrote

nowhere did Cheeks say shit about people not playing multiplayer games

  9. Equal parts optimism and wishful thinking for me. I want to like everything I buy, obviously, and that's where the optimism comes in. The wishful thinking comes from thinking I'll have the time to play it all.

I am glad you agree his points are not relevant to this discussion. Thank you.
