  2. THE FLORIDA MARLINS ARE DEAD! ROY HALLADAY KILLED EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! The Doc throws the 20th perfect game since 1880 and accomplishes the rarest feat in all of Major League Baseball shutting down every bit of the Marlins offense tonight. We're going to be seeing highlights of this game being played 40 years from now. (taken from my Facebook posting).

I heard all the cheers from the bar while I was working tonight every time the Flyers scored and then one of the busboys comes back and tells me that Halladay has a no hitter going into the 9th. I hear one cheer and figure the game was over and then hear the LOUDEST cheer and was like "alright, a no hitter!" and then that busboy comes back and told me it wasn't a no hitter but a perfect game and my jaw dropped. Simply amazing.

There are no words, man. No words. I'm so happy for him!

    The phillies offense is horrendous.

  5. You know what though? Had that been the jays they would have found a way to lose that perfect game.

The Phillies only scored on an error and thank god! Imagine if Halladay had pitched 9 perfect innings in a scoreless game. I wonder if they would've sent him out for the 10th inning? I mean, how can you pull a guy with a perfect game going?

Pretty much. The Jays/Halladay break-up was a divorce that needed to happen. It made both parties stronger.

  8. Losing Halladay did not make the Jays stronger. They just happened to be deeper than they thought. AND Vernon Wells decided he wanted to play this year.

I don't disagree. What I meant is, Halladay needed to play for a contender—he'd paid his dues—and the young Jays pitchers/players needed to play in an environment where they felt the pressure of having to live up to the expectations of a baseball God.

In the end, though, it doesn't matter. The Phillies will be in the World Series, and the Jays will be 15 back of the Wild Card. This month is going to be brutal.

Not with the way they're hitting right now they won't. I can't recall a time since I've gotten into baseball that the Phillies offense has done so poorly in a stretch. They have the best offense in the NL on paper, this is just absurd. I've already made plans of what to do if it continues. I will run on the field and right before I get tasered and drug away, I will douse myself with gasoline and set myself on fire like the Vietnamese monks.
