  1. I'd wait to see if there's anything substantial behind this. You know innocent until proven otherwise. Although honestly there's always the specter of foreign agents providing incentive for her to press her case, however meritorious. we may never know the truth.

  4. Well the problem is confidentiality is pretty much the key to modern real politik diplomacy. That's the first part. We'd never get the cooperation of the Saudis, Israelis or any of the central asian republics without basically bribing them at some level. But it looks better for both sides if they agree to help each other in what looks like spontaneous acts of good will and cooperation.

    It looks really bad when we essentially buy votes at the UN and other bodies when publicly we're all anti-corruption and the leaders of human rights in the world. (Yes i'm aware that line is VERY flawed and dated). Especially when such deal antagonize other allies and partners. It also jeopardizes the likelihood of countries sharing info through diplomatic channels on anything "sensitive" and i don't mean "classified" data.

    The upside is transparency encourages things be on the up and up. I mean it wasn't a real secret anyway that there were heavy civilian casualties of war. Anyone who believe this was a clean war was an idiot. I mean hell events like the gunship incident is exactly why we're not participating in the Hague/International Court of Justice.

    The only "real" way to have transparency is to have leaks like this, we cannot trust our government to be honest with us all the time. Its better than the alternative.
