I haven't played it a lot but Castlevania HD doesn't feel like a Metroidvania in the slightest. No XP grinding, no finding items or abilities to reach other areas of the map, the whole map is visible from the onset, etc. It's more like a weird MP Castlevania/Diablo hybrid where each character levels in a different way, drops and chests are just the surface of secrets on each map and the fun is in being able to run the maps in one go.

  4. I think it's a lot like PSO.

PSO is an unabashed Diablo ripoff, so I think making the Diablo comparison covers that base as well.

There is still leveling up, item collection, Barbie dress up, and back-tracking. My ideal Castlevania has a whip (this is not optional), some sub-weapons, a whole shit ton of enemies and not much else.

  7. Okay, I took the plunge and just purchased this. Hopefully there are still people playing.

I'm still playing, sometimes. I'm not very good.

I definitely still am. I'm not very leveled up or geared either, though Dipstick and Necro essentially ran me through most of the game.

You peons or whippersnappers missed a chance to join some of the original TNL Legends or geriatric ward (Josh, Shidoshi, and me) for some Normal noob fun earlier. Kudos to Josh for coming up with the jump kick the first boss 500 times until he dies strategy where you can't get hit and get an achievement.
