Cool stuff guys! I really should join in on this.
Day 6. Raining outside, so I was stuck indoors with this one. Liked my last self portrait, so I wanted to do something similar, but added a beer bottle to give it an ad look. Turned out ok, but I couldn't really get a pose I really liked and of course lighting was crap again. I was debating adding text to give a real ad look, but decided against it, as the photo itself is what is more important here. Any suggestions on composition and or poses for this one? I know the hat thing might be lame, but I like the shadow and mysteriousness of it. Also, I hate having pictures of me, and this way I feel like the picture isn't about me cause you can't see my face.

Well it took me a while, but I finally got my shot for today. Had no idea what i wanted to do, and didn't feel like leaving the apartment, so I had to find something I could use here. I thought about continuing my self portrait theme, but the idea I had was just too difficult to pull off solo and without profession lighting. I snapped off a few test shots, but didn't feel they were going to work. In a last minute effort, and after seeing a similar photo at joystiq, I decided to go with a nice macro/shallow DOF photo of a 360 controller. As I was dumping the pics to the computer, I decided to look at the self portrait ones... and a couple actually didn't turn out half bad. They weren't exactly what I was going for, but I was able to get one and do some really cool things with it, but now I am torn about which one to use for today. I have 2 different versions of the self portrait, so I think I will post them in the photographers thread and use the 360 controller one for today. Only a week in, and it is already getting tough to come up with ideas.

Cool idea, but this one of those times that perhaps centering your subjects might have been better. because of the black background, it would have given the image symmetry. Once you get the hang of aperture and ISO, you will be able to do cool things with this kind of lighting and candles. Keep working at it.
I dig the lighting on the hat, Cap... I'd have dodged out the face a little more so it's just hands, booze and hat. Thats a preference thing though, not an absolute. The neon shot is pretty rad. Looks like a drawing, really. And I don't think you need the person in there, though I suppose you could shoot someone and add them in later if you're fancy.
DT. With a symmetrical subject I don't feel like the 2/3rds rule applies. Shoot it straight on, light it well, and the subject is doing more of the talking in your shot... not necessarily the composition. Does this make sense? Some others may disagree with this...
Oh... I took a snapshot today specifically for this thread. I'm still enamored with my instamatic app... so fuck clarity or precise framing.
This is the infamous Monroe/Fayette intersection in West Baltimore. I'd have framed the shot differently if I had more time, but I was driving while I took this. It was also raining. I had to time the shot with the wipers clearing off my windshield, and the fact that I was doing about 40mph because fuck this neighborhood... seriously. I'd like to go back and shoot this from the middle of the intersection, but it's not a good neighborhood to be waving around an iPhone in.
Anyway... it is what it is.

Pretty cool Josh. Amazing you were able to pull that off given the circumstances.
The only reason I am taking any pictures at all anymore is because of this iPhone program. I love how unpredictable and random the stuff coming out of it is. All the fun of photography (for me) was stripped out by ease of digital. This is making me enjoy it again!
I'll try to get some more shots today. Maybe I'll go to the park or something. I'm actually paying for the ap as we speak (can't do in ap purchases with the jailbreak) so I can get more "lenses" and types of "film" I'm pretty stoked!
