Thread: Sega's Future Plans Revealed - sorta...

  1. Sega's Future Plans Revealed - sorta...

    stolen from Gamers.com - - thanks guys.

    -----------------------------------------
At a stockholder's meeting today, Sega revealed their software strategy for the next year and commented on a number of topics. Due to be released this year are 42 games for PlayStation 2, 15 for Xbox, 20 for GameCube, and 12 for Game Boy Advance. No titles were mentioned for PC, but Sega said it was still an important platform for them.

In the question-and-answer session afterward, Sega reiterated that they would not be developing any new Dreamcast games, although there are still a few Dream Collection rereleases of hit games for the system, and a few third parties still had games in development.

Interestingly, they also mentioned that the most important market for them is North America. Such was their reasoning when asked why they continued to support the Xbox, which has a weak following in Japan but stronger support in North America.

In Phantasy Star Online related news, they mentioned that the lack of a fee collection system was one of the reasons why the PlayStation 2 wouldn't be getting a version of Sonic Team's hit online RPG. Sega also announced that a version of the game for release in China was in the works, though they were unsure of which platform it would be for.

42 games for the PS2!!!! Holy Sheet....where are all these games gonna come from....all of a sudden that Sega release list that was making the Internet message board rounds during E3 is starting to seem quite believable...what yall think?

  2. Take Sega's 2001 Dreamcast lineup, add aliasing and washed out colors, some sports games and then the odd original game like Shinobi.

There you have it, Sega's PS2 lineup.

  3. yeah, that's pretty much it... take the amount of good stuff from the XBox or Gamecube, add in some dreamcast ports, and you have the PS2 lineup...

  4. in all honesty, what games are really left from Sega's DC library to come up with 42 ported games...the anti PS2 faction is growing stronger on this board on a daily basis. people always hate the winner i suppose.

    42 games...perhaps 5 - 10 will consist of DC ports.

Count the ports. Besides that's 42 games for Japan, barely half will come out in America i'm sure.

Anyway from Sega's PS2 lineup I will take the new Sakura Taisen games, Shinobi, Gungrave, Virtua Cop Re-birth (but only if they're not PC ports) and Aero Dancing 4. Nice selection (especially the Sakura Taisen games although i'm still playing through #2...) I like their Xbox lineup way better.

That's only 34 games. Rez is on the list twice, and came out in Japan last year IIRC. Some Minimoni game is on the list twice. Crazy Taxi is on the list, which came out in the US in May of 2001, so I'm assuming it came out in Japan last year, too. I'd assume NFL2K2 came out in Japan last year. So that knocks, what 5 games off the list (and I can't read any of the games that don't have link and are in Japanese characters, so possibly more can be dropped off due to being listed twice or they came out in 2001)? So we're at 13 games that aren't on the list and are possibly not ports.

What the hell is Switch? Looks like a Japanese version of Sierra and Lucasarts style adventure games.

  9. Aerodancing 4!?
