Thread: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

  1. Says the guy who cares enough about his TNL avatar that he changes it more than once every few years.

  2. The fight scenes and heroic visage of Scott is actually all part of the story. His heroic image of himself is a false construction. What's the device called? An unreliable narrator? Everything is from Scott's perspective and it's more epic than the reality.

  3. Is that why every character in the book only serves one purpose: to coddle and take care of Scott?

Dude writes the character like he's some hapless lovable loser when he's really just a jerk.

  4. Which ends up being a big plot point.

  5. The whole series is about him realizing that. Now I'm not sure how deliberate the whole process was on the part of the author, but I would recommend you read through to book 4, where the whole theme of the story starts to flesh itself out. Scott has a good head on his shoulders but he IS a loser and a pussy about a lot of things.

EDIT: By the way, I fully expect the movie to gloss over that and appeal strictly to the surface value of "VIDEO GAMES REFERENCES" and "INDIE MUSIC OMG" while trumping up Scott as a real epic hero. That's fine, that's why people always say the books are better.

  6. I only read the first three so far - but I downloaded 1-5 so I'll get to them eventually.

Three was better than the first two. At least Edgar Wright can fix the unfunny for the movie.

  9. Ever been to a flea market/dirt mall? That bit was pretty true to the experience of such a place!
