After the success of Dragon's Lair, it wasn't long until Japanese developers began making similar interactive cartoon laserdisc-based arcade games. It's a style over substance genre but two of the cooler ones were released in 1985: Taito's Time Gal and Data East's Road Blaster, both made in collaboration with Toei Animation.
Both went virtually unheard of in the West, at least until WolfTeam's home versions appeared on Sega CD in the early '90s giving them a second chance. Road Blaster was renamed Road Avenger in North America and Europe presumably to avoid copyright issues with Atari Games' Roadblasters. Japan later received Saturn and Playstation ports of both these games as well as a 3DO version of Road Blaster. Road Blaster also resurfaced in 2009 for PC in Japan.
So, comparing whatever versions you played, which do you like more?

I, too, have only played the Sega CD versions.
Road Avenger was my favorite of the two.
You can't deny that intro song.
LOL Sega CD memories... Bad ones. I had Time Gal and the chopper one. Forget what its called.
cobra command.
Tim Gal, because I remember playing it. In theory I must have played Road Avenger, but I don't remember a bit of it. Cobra Command would have taken it hands-down, though. I love that game in the arcade, even if I only saw one person ever beat it.

Road Avenger peels out all over Time Gal. It wins by virtue of its awesome theme song alone. Besides, Time Gal never had a novel made out of its story!
I prefer Time Gal because the titular character is awesome. Plus it has great failure sequences.
