I'm not as bothered by this as I ordinarily am, because it seems more like a riff on MK or a reimagining than the usual movie that interprets its source material loosely. Maybe it's because I don't care about MK's story to begin with.
The really forced little winks and references are pretty groan-worthy though. I hated that shit in Star Trek and I hate it here.
