Sektor scares me in this game.

He was my favorite as a kid cheesing playing MK3. Nets and teleports everywhere?

It's still Mortal Kombat, if you hate the series this will do nothing to change that. It still has that chunky kind of hit and move gameplay. No run button, there is a block button. It's more of an extension of 2 than 3, there is some more depth but I doubt it'll be showing up in tournaments and I'm sure some infinite shit will be found in time. Every special move has a modifier with the energy bar, there's a (pretty easy to do) combo breaker that uses 2 bars. Projectiles/throws/teleports galore. Combos are short chains and mostly juggle based. I haven't done tag yet, but there are normal swap tags, tags that have the other character attack and stay and one were you're partner comes in just to attack and steps off again.

Holy shit is this an insane MK game. It's like what 3 should have been. For real, if you loved 2 when it came out, this game is going to make you freak out like you were 12 again.

This game looks and sounds so cool, it's silly. Some of the effects are really wild (Noob's stuff in particular) and the moves they've come up with are hilarious and brutal. Great fatalities, a shit load of stuff to do and unlock the game is packed with stuff. Loving it so far.

I never knew that Cyrax was black until I saw some footage online. Crazy!

This game is good. Still hate the block button (I'm so used to SF I instinctively hold back and assume I'm "safe") but oh well. The game is great IMO. Feels like a good update on the old game. The new karacter designs are pretty good, too. I went 10 - 0 with Noob Saibot and 4 - 0 with Striker (lost with a few other guys though).

The "I'm feeling lucky" mode is pretty great, too. Except magnetic floors. They suck and ruin the action completely.

What layouts are stick people using? I'm doing:

FP BLK FK
BP ST BK

(Front Punch, Block, Front Kick top row)

(Back Punch, Stance, Back Kick bottom row)

This seems to be the closest to old school MK, except BP is the uppercut, WTF. Some of the specials end up where they should on this layout, some don't. It makes throws funky, but it seems like the best option.

Does the game even pretend to have depth or is it just more mortal kombat? Not that I have anything wrong with that, just wondering how much they changed. Is there still a block button?

Like Rumpy said, it's MK2 updated and dumped into the year 2011. That's both an awesome and a horrible thing.
